Mortal Kombat X Story Trailer Reveal – It’s Wicked

After being spoiled with reveals of some of the most brutal brutalities in history, Mortal Kombat promised that we would see more soon. And they meant really soon! Earlier this day, Netherrealm Studios and Warner Bros revealed a trailer to the all new story mode of Mortal Kombat X, and it looks like it’s going to be an all out Family Affair.
Let’s just take a minute to let all of that set in. What did we just watch? That was so good it almost felt like a movie trailer! Haha. There’s so much new and fresh things coming to this MK that trailer was almost overwhelming. I’m on a mission to replay this around 10 times then I should be able to catch everything. Looks like once again Earthrealm and Outworld are having their issues and it’s up to this new generation fighters to pull together to save the worlds. The evil talisman of course can consume power and when it’s in the wrong hands it will do more harm than good. There’s so much new stuff going on in the MK Universe I’m so excited for.
So Much Hype in One Little Trailer
Mind blown! Let me recap some thoughts from my reaction. I loved catching a glimpse of Shinnok in that scene where Raiden used the Tailsman against him. And also did you catch a glimpse of zombiefied Kitana? Whoa! Milena is back and looks better than ever, especially in her design. Please tell me that Baraka is amongst those Tarkata warriors around the 1:08 mark. A flashkick and 3 arrows to the face by Kung Jin! That was so sick! There were so many characters in that reveal I couldn’t even keep up! Seeing Human Scorpion is like spotting a Pokemon out in the wild. Looks like we’ve caught a glimpse of lots of returning faces such as Sindel, Erron Black, Rain.. and a few more. We were told 5 character reveals in 1 day but who is the 5th? No official word yet on a final roster, but at this point I’m even just happy to see some of them in the story.
A New Generation of Fighters Emerges
Taking place 25 years after the events of Mortal Kombat (2011), a few new characters of a generation that we’ve grown too used to are introduced, who discover that Outworld is not the only threat that they will soon face. They will need to work together to save the fate of Earthrealm! We see Cassie Cage, daughter of Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade (Yes, we shipped those two a long time ago), Takashi Takeda – son of the blind swordsman Kenshi, Jacqueline Briggs, the daughter of Jax Briggs, and Kung Jin who is the descendant of Kung Lao. Looks like Cassie has assumed the role as leader of the group, though they can not work together. Not only do these characters look really interesting, but I’d love to see their back-story having to grow up with such bad-ass parents!
But Are They Gonna Be Any Good
Don’t for one second think that these will be carbon copies of their boss parents! Jacqui actually fights with flamethrowers and guns attached to her arms, unlike her father who fights with that beat you down spirit. Kung Jin mainly fights with his arrow/staff like weapon which is going to be so unique considering that Kung Lao fights in variation with teleports, spins and his bladed hat. Takashi appears to fight with a trail of whips on his arms. And Cassie seems to have a broader fight style kind of combined of the two. As her playstyle has already been revealed, she has two main variations in Brawler and Hollywood which both are inspired by the cocky style of Johnny and the military style of Sonya. Of them all, I’m most excited for Kung Jin.
All Of The Hype!
Mortal Kombat X recently had a huge reveal stating that many of our old school favorites have returned. We have NetherRealm to thank for making this release date as painless as possible with a new reveal which seems to be almost every week. I’m extremely excited for the return of many (including Milena even though I can’t stand fighting her) and I am definitely curious to see all of the new characters in action.
